Playspot: Austria, Tyrol, Ried, River Inn, Ried Wave.
What's it like
The Ried Wave is a big river wide wave on the Inn. The wave is overall green but breaks in places depending on the water level. It is very good for all wave moves: blunts, aerials, spins, green grinding and even some vertical moves although quite flushy.
The wave works best in high water. Usually May/June is the right season. If the water level on the Inn is not high enough, the wave won't be as wide and there will be only 2/3 surfable retentive pockets in the middle. It will be impossible to get onto the wave from the river right eddy as well. Click here to get a (large) picture at medium water levels.
How to get there
The Ried Wave is in the river Inn, in the Austrian Tirol. You will find it 1.5 kilometer north of Prutz on the B315. Exit for the village of Ried and drive into the village. At the T junction (where the church is), turn left and follow the road until the fountain (on the left hand side). Turn left here and now just follow the blue signs to "(Zum) Badesee". When you arrive to the football pitch, carry on on the same road/path until you reach the 'Sports Cafe' and its HUGE car park. Park here, get changed and carry your boat over the wooden bridge, under the road bridge and get in. The wave is about 100 meters downsstream. There is a nice breakout 500 meters downstream of the wave but beware some broken glass on the banks.
