New playboater proggression? 18 years 11 months ago #6474

Ok, I'm a reasonably new boater looking to start playboating.
Whats a good progression of tricks to do?
I'd like to learn cartwheels, but I think I might be too light too. (125-130 lbs. in an inazone 230).
Any suggestions?

my first suggestion is get a new boat lol, although the inazone is good something smaller might be a good idea for doing those moves you want to do, the inazone is a good playboat but you are limited in what they can do unless you have arms like arny swartznegger

Probaly learn to front surf, then flat spin,

you could probaly stern squirt on powerful edylines,

maybe if you got really good you could cartwheel in a hole.

I can cartwheel and loop my liquid logic trigger in the right hole and I am 120

But basically if you want to playboat you want a new boat, like a ZG 48

Thanks guys, at the moment, a new boat is out of the question (cha ching-wise)...but maybe there'll be a used playboat at gauley fest.
Oh, and how exactly do you flat spin?

flatt spins can change a little depending on the feature, but there are some golden rules.

the first part is the use of speed. too much power moving around or onto features will either carve u off or pearl ur bow resulting in a trip down under.

be gentle wen getting onto waves and make small but deliberate moves to control the direction of ur boat.

next, u can start the move urself or use the shoulder of the hole or wave to turn ur boat, making sure that u keep the hull as flat as possible( too much edge will push u off the wave, too little............. splash.)

make sure u take a look around (constantly looking at ur bow wont help), check where ur tail is so that u now when to change edge as the tail comes round. at this point a small back stroke may be rquired (in small features) to keep u on the wave/hole before a small sweep stroke too finnish the spin as u face upstream.

but it all takes practice and timing. good luk

to add to what everyone else has said, ive found that when your going to turn your boa for the spin, looking opver your shoulder at where your boat is spining makes a big differnece. Also, if you haven't learned to roll you probably should because there is lots of windo shading in your future.

I've got a roll, and though I've never had to use it on the river, I figure playboating will fix that rickity tick.

I think the double pump is the gateway to so many tricks in kayaking. It teaches you many very useful techniques that are essential to almost every move. Leading with the head, maintaining a forward posture, and good balance are all perfected through the double pump. Once you have it down, get ready to cartwheel, bow stall, wave wheel, blunt, loop, etc. Now your really enjoying that little boat you crammed your feet into.
