They also didn't release a shooting star with the star series. I'm not sure if this is because they figure the new star is small enough for kids or what?
I'd say really small kids kayaks and kayaks for the larger paddler are quite a limited market. And they are only one brand in the market. To release a very large kayak and a very small kayak in every range is a pretty big risk I think. I think they're doing a smart thing offering kayaks for all shapes of people, but being realistic about the fact that it's a very limited market. As you said, a larger paddler can still get the old Super Fun. They also released a Mon-Star that wasn't available in the old line, so it's not like they've forgot about the bigger people out there.
I wouldn't discount the mon-star just yet. Looking at the Jackson website, the old sueperfun's volume is 70 gallons. The 2010 Mon-Star is 72-3/4 gallons.
Personally, I really don't think there's really a difference between paddling a playboat and a river running playboat. If it's not safe to paddle a playboat down, then it's not going to be safe in a 'river running play boat'.
