Hello everyone,
I'm looking to buy my first boat and have found a Dagger wiz/vertigo for sale pretty cheap, online here in Australia. Just wondering a few things about these boats. Firstly, how good would the boat be as a river runner on max grade 3 rivers, ie is it strictly a play boat or not? And secondly how suitable would the boat be for me being 6'6/95kg and us13?
Any help and info will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Orion.

To be honest I would not really class the Vertigo as a playboat by modern standards, it is seriously old school and quite hard work to get that many tricks out of it, that said when you do get cartwheels, blunts etc. down in a Vertigo you will find them incredibly easy in a modern boat.

As a river runner up to grade 3, it is ideal, fast, manoeuvrable and pretty forgiving and at 95kg (which is closer to 15 stone by the way) you will be right at the top of the weight range for it but should be just about ok, the only issue I can see is how comfortable you would be in it at 6'6" the answer to which I have no idea about, it feels like there is a warehouse of space in there to me but I am only 5'11"

Hi Orion,

The Dagger Wiz is a boat designed and made in Australia and for that reason is pretty inexpensive compared to imported boats. It doesn't fulfill either function as a play boat or river runner very well and you will find it uncomfortable at your height.
If you are looking to run rivers only then a better second hand choice would be something like a Dagger GT which comes in three sizes, or other boats designed for that purpose. Other Playboats/River runners which will do a much better job than the Wiz are boats like the Wavesport EZ or EZG and the Jackson 4Fun and they may be available online second hand in Australia. A guy I paddle with had a Wiz and he found it became very limiting, very quickly.
Hope that helps
