pyranha recoil center microcell rib 17 years 1 month ago #21013

I just bought a new pyranha recoil and I fit in it much better with the center microcell "rib" in the bow removed. What is the purpose of this "rib" and what will it affect if it is removed/remolded? This, "rib", as I'm calling it is just a 3-4" piece of virtical microfoam that separates the left and right side of the boat. There is also one in the stern but this one doesn't get in my way. Any help at all is appriciated. Thanks!

I get the feeling you mean the central pillar... Don't remove that. You're boat will become far less rigid and the chances of your deck popping are far greater. During a pin or broach your kayak can now fold onto you a lot easier.. :skull: creating a death trap.

Yea, Do not remove it at all. What is the problem? Is it that your feet are squished when it is in? What I did when I had that problem is cut a little Notch in it for my heels. I would not recommend this because it is weakening your boat.

Yeah I'm 6'0 shoe size 10.5 and I moved the seat all the way back but there still isn't enough room in there. All my previous kayaking has been creeking and my boats have always had plastic pillars (always called them ribs) and I didn't know how important of a role the foam pillars played. How big of a slot did you cut out? I wouldn't need much. Just big enough to get my heels through.

Just a hole big enough for my feet. Call up a dealer and ask them.
