How did you get to that short list?

Have you given any thought to the JK Rocker or 08' Hero? How about the LL jefe?

I like Pyranha boats too... My first kayak was a Mountain BAT and I will always love the Micro. I have heard rumor of Oil Can issues though... personally I didnt like the outfitting on the Dagger. Never have (That is personal preferance).

Im in the same shoes.Getting a creeker. My list is

JK Mega Rocker
LL Jefe Grande
Pyranah Everest
Pyranha Burn

I want something that can double as a river runner too

I paddle a Burn (M) I’m 6’2 Size 11 shoe and 72kg and it has been great for creeking here in North Wales. As usual the best advice is get in as many as you can and see what suits you.
Have you thought about the Bliss Stick Mystic looks like a great boat and a slightly cheaper option?

Re:Creek kayak... ? 17 years 4 months ago #19750

the mamba is not a real creek boat

here in quebec, we have 80% riot magnum creeker

i didn't try any other recent creeker, in the past i had a micro 240 and a wave sport y as a creeker

i never try other creeker because i like the magnum, it got enough speed, track weel and can carve rapidly in an eddy, the nomad will got a better speed and will keep it line better but it will not turn like a magnum so you got to have an excellent river reading

the magnum is a middle weight, it got enough volume for me an the river i run in the spring and it not too big or too long for low water creeking during the summertime

my stat:
6'2''
195#

Have you tried paddleworks/Eddylines in Bala/Llangollen? They do Bliss Stick boats. They have a pretty full range of demo boats as well and as they have a shop right next to the Dee you can demo boats back to back on the same piece of water which is always a good thing.

That's what I paddle and I weigh 240lbs. I'll probably bring that and a SCUD with me to North Carolina. I'll let you try them out while I'm there. By the way, I think I'm going to push back my trip to some time after Memorial Day. I'll let you know the dates when I make reservations.

I've been paddling a Burn L for 16 months or so now and it's a great hull, resurfaces brilliantly, carves around when you need it on big water and handles slides well despite the relatively sharp, but tucked, edges. I've never tripped up on a slide but that might just be luck.

If you're looking at an Everest make sure you like big boats. I sat in one today and felt dwarfed (remember LARGE Burn paddler) and I weigh 100 ish kilos. It was noticeably bigger than the Jefe Grande which I also sat in.

I'm getting a new boat and thinking about a Habitat 80 as the hull is displacement but it still has some nice tucked rail that I think could help with Moving round the river, anyone got any input on this? The Burn is lovely but the outfitting is a bit basic and I like wavesports.

The best outfitting was definately in the LL boat, its like a damn armchair in there - amazingly comfy, but the hull was just too rounded for my liking.

I have a Habitat, Yes it handles like you think it does; If you are used to a flat bottom boat it feels a bit tippy at 1st. but the secondary stability is great. The displacement hull slides over rocks and logs without tripping up yet when you put it on edge it will carve. I had a little trouble with ferrying it. The bow would get blown downstream a lot. I learned to use a down-stream rudder when ferrying and now I have no problems. I'm a big fan of Wave Sport outfitting. Simple, solid a comfortable.

I don't work for Wave Sport, In fact I have 3 boats from 3 manufacturers. The Habi is a great boat.
