Buy this book before you make the boat.

Polyester (which most paint and autopart stores carry) is pretty crappy and will melt all that nice blue foam that you have carved.

Vinylester is great stuff, but will also melt the foam. (highly recommended if you are making a boat from a fiberglass mold, however)

You want Epoxy. Easiest stuff to find the U.S. is West System. It has good working properties and a UV protective addition already in the mix.

System 3 works well too, is often less expensive, but does not have any UV protection added to it. Might not be a big deal if you only expect the boat to last a couple of short years and/or you are painting the outside.

We had a similar, more in depth discussion over on a local message board.
Read through the thread, and feel free to ask more questions here.
It would be good to have all this type of information in easier to find places so people could just keep adding their expertise to it.

Charlie Walbridge edited a great book \"Boatbuilder's Manual\"

if the guys on this link don't have it, do a search on Amazon.com and they can find you a used copy

That looks like a pretty sweet boat you've got in the making there! Good luck with it!
