The Big River 18 years 2 months ago #13382

So a buddy of mine and I found a cool looking lake in the back yard of his grandparents house and decided to go and just kayak around the lake and check it out. We stumbled over a connection to the lake next to it and kept going. after a few months of criss crossing through lakes and under bridges and tunnels we found out that the same lake that was in his grand fathers back yard connected straight to the gulf of Mexico! We've been through a lot to get to where we are, but according to the maps we're only halfway there. My friend (Everett) and I have been underneath parkways, through countless experiences with spiders, alligators, and cows yes cows in the middle of the river. We've jumped fences, made torches for tunnels, hacked through thickets and made it a grand total of 3 miles from where we started. But following what where we've been and what we've been through is a priceless experience that's kept me going on. We've started in lake john Lakeland, FL and made it all the way to Lake Handcock in Bartow, FL. From there we intend to make the journey into the peace river and onto the gulf of Mexico! I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with a lake or stream in their backyard?

Sounds awesome! If you have the time and/or inclination, why don't you write up an article and create a Playak Blog?
