New Playboat!?! 18 years 3 months ago #12330

It seems that young Chris Hobson of the Northern Irish Surf Team paddler found a new use for his surf boat (it is a Mega Short RR's for anyone that is interested)!

In it's natural environment:

What Chris has been doing with it (The playspot is on River Blackwater, N.Ireland):

Now that looks like it has to be worth a go!

Thats pritty cool alright

Seems to be quite a lot of water on the river that day. Was that after all the rain in the last few weeks?

I noticed Chris didn't use fins here. Was this because it was the first time or would fins limit river performance too much? My Marauder is very slippery without fins but perhaps the Short RR is more like a short playboat?

I would have thought that the lack of fins would be in order to aid with cartwheeling and spin based moves. I would have thought that this will make the boat a touch on the loose side but this just means you need to work your edge a bit more.

Hey Guys! Afraid there is no sciensy technical reason for having no fins, apart from the fact it was hard to get in! lol couldnt get off the bank with the fins in, so had to take them out! As for the performance of the boat, it is just like a surf boat, but shorter, its super fast, performs really well, but definitly needs fins!

And 2ndly, thats the blackwater at a fairly high level, that was it on sunday, around 3 oclock, was reallly nice level!
