The weekend of the 16/17th September saw the British Championships and the last chance to qualify for the World cup. This event was held in Magheraroarty, Co Donegal.
The guys from the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland decided to run the event in Magheraroarty, Co Donegal which is in the far West of Ireland as it has a very high consistency of surf compared to other potential spots. Sure enough there were contestable waves and a fantastic venue for a surf event such as this. The guys ran a very well organised and professional event with professional judges being employed. All the months of planning and organising resulted in a highly professional event which seemed to run effortlessly (Harry and a few others did from time to time look a bit like there were hiding in case something went wrong, but it never did!)
Everyone who entered enjoyed the event for its professional format and ruthless timekeeping.
I would like to thank all the guys for there hard work on behalf of the BCU surf committee and am looking forward to competing with them all again in Portugal.
Steve Bowens (BCU Surf Committee Chair)
