The Best ?

Conditions change in the sea depending on the weather.

The best conditions would be condeidered by most to be a big swell and offshore winds.

Devon and Cornwall have the best potential for surf in the uk

you can use a site like to check the conditions

magicseaweed.com/

I would also remember that the sea is a diffent animal to river paddling and it may be not such a good idea to rock up and just paddle out.

A little common sense will go along way as will local knowledge of rip tides

try scarborough or maybe saltburn. East coast gets excellent surf especially this time of year; British Surf Championships (boardies) are now regularly held in Tynemouth (Near Geordieland-Newcastle). Check out magicseaweed.com for surf forecast and webcams.

Don't know if this is near your place, but I heared great stories of this place.

"The Bitches are a notorious line of rocks and reef between Ramsey Island and the Welsh mainland. Named because of the ship wrecks they have caused in the past, the Bitches are now synonymous with big white water and xtreme kayaking. The Bitches work by generating large white water when the tide comes in and rushes over the shallow reef. On a spring tide the Bitches will produce several large standing waves which can reach up to 8 foot" (www.bitchesfestival.com/about.htm)

i personally live in the usa and have never taken my kayak to the beach. However, you should maybe check out the posts on surfers and kayakers and make sure you dont get any surfers pissed when you go out. :roflol:

HI!

I AM FROM DEVA CANOE CLUB. It is an excellent club with really cheap membership. We do all types of boating activities, mainly white water kayaking on the River Dee in Chester and Llangollen. New members are always welcome. Heres the site...

www.devacanoeclub.org.uk/

Hope this helps.

P.S. surfing in Cornwall is my best tip if you want to go big.

stay away from the main big beaches there always full of angry surfers and spongers try a less well known beach
try and go in a small group as well
look into some surf etiquicut and try and abide by it
oh and make use of the surf most goat boaters i see go out back f the surf and throw cart wheels which seems like a waste of time i wont empress a bordy
but have fun and go with the surf report but take it lightly ceefax i found to be more relable
i live right on the door step of good surf so just keep ur head down and do your thing and you will love it

is surfing a river the same as surfing the ocean

best surf spots in england? 19 years 2 months ago #3701

No! On the river you've a far more constant wave; on the ocean every wave is different. The moves on the ocean are far more difficult because of this in my oppinion.

do you get the same speed on the river as on the ocean

best surf spots in england? 19 years 2 months ago #3707

depends off how big (high) the wave is. Mostly riverwave are more speedy and easier to get aireal from.

I tend to disagree. I find that when on an ocean wave i can get a lot more air. More speed equals more air. Generally ocean waves are bigger and faster unless you're fortunate enough to stay near a big volume river.... In South Africa we get some really awesome waves...(ocean) I think www.fluidkayaks.co.za has video footage of some cool waves in SA.[/color:add5450f98]

best surf spots in england? 19 years 2 months ago #3843

not nessessaryly lol nah each wave is indviual, waves come in all shapes n sizes, ive got a slow boat, so it likes slow waves, however it just adaps to any wave really, standing waves are stationary which means in theroy you could stay on there forever, ocean waves have a limited life, but there fun!

Ocean waves are generally better than river waves in my opinion. They are generally bigger and way faster. Put one shitty ocean wave on a river, and it becomes a world famous playspot. Problem is, on the ocean, you have to throw your moves quickly, or else end up on the beach.

surfin the sea is defantly beta than a surfin on a river only when u get some good waves tho i was surfin @ the weekend on sum 10ft waves mayb even 12ft it was great you just glide straight into the shore but saying that i think white water paddeling (playboating) is so much better because it is more thrill seeking, exciting and enjoyable [/color:14720fe77f]
