Congratulations, it is such a satisfying feeling to finally pop back up on your own. Make sure you really get it down while it is fresh in your mind. Roll as often as possible.

Congrats on the roll!!

You took a lot less time than I did. :S
I tried to roll last year during an intro to whitewater
course. I didn't do so well...my head kept coming up...I was overthinking
everything. I was analyzing all the steps etc. It just wasn't working.

Then in February, we were playing kayak polo at the pool.
Again I tried to roll with no sucess.:(
After our Polo session, we were just playing around...working on edge
control etc. when I flipped over.
I remember thinking, "just try to roll up"...and the next thing I knew, I was
sitting above water IN my kayak thinking..."OMG! I am up!"
I was SOOO happy.:silly:

Well, it all progressed from there. I have a solid flatwater roll and
have made many combat rolls as well. It is so much easier to try new things
when you have the confidence to roll back up.

Keep practicing...and congrats again!!

Congrats on your roll. Ofcourse running a river you want to stay as upright as possible so dont forget those skills ;-)

Combat roll: a mthod of rolling up in moving water that protects you shoulders face and torso. basically if you have just learnt to roll there is a good chance that is what you are doing.

Best vid I can think of to show this is Ej's rolling and bracing DVD, worth getting perhaps.

basically you do the whole move over the front of your deck leaning forward as apposed to a back deck squirt / rodeo roll where you sweep leaning over the back of the deck.

Word of caution, I used this on a river once and popped my shoulder right out, only use this when you are ready and learn the combat roll first.

here is a vid of a rodeo roll

Congrats again.
