Kayak Hot Dogs: Don\'t Get Shafted: Bent Or Straight What Is Best For You? 16 years 2 months ago #24959

Playak News Watch: Kayak Hot Dogs: Don\'t Get Shafted: Bent Or Straight What Is Best For You?

As I sit in my cozy cabin, with little opportunity for some whitewater paddling, my mind starts to wander into the countless arguments we spend time debating over a cracked case of brew and a warming fire.

Here's an article to add to the bent VS straight debate we were having on another thread. :)

I do, however, strongly disagree with flat-water Olympic paddlers being used to compare. Of course they don't use neutral bent shafts, they are using wing paddle blades and a totally different type of stroke! And also on a couple of his others points but I thought a few people might appreciate another outlook.

The debate will never end, and thats fine. Just paddle what makes you happy :woohoo:

I can´t make up my mind - that´s why I use both.

No one said you HAD to be on either team :P

I use both! I use a straight shaft for creeking, and a bent shaft for playboating.

My reasoning is simple. For creeking I like to know exactly where my last stoke will be (will it be on the edge of the drop, or an 1" infront). I know that this may not effect the out come, however it's just a piece of mind. While playboating I find the bent shaft easier on the wrist. Especially since there is alot of flatwater on the Ottawa. ;)

Just my thoughts

Cheers
Andrew

I'll still stick with neutral bent :side:
