Paddle length.. preference or performance??? 17 years 2 weeks ago #21343

So I am still paddling my first paddle I got which was some Aqua Bound, straight carbon. Its a 197cm.

My question is, What are the benefits of going to a shorter paddle when playboating, since many guys like to use a shorter one for playing and a longer one for creeking or running. I know that size and shape of the blade is performance so I would like to focus on the length. I feel like I have t-rex arms with a shorter paddle but would get used to it if it meant going to a 194 would be easier to play with and had benefits..

So is it performance or all preference?? Are there benefits??

If its not broken then don't fix it. If you aren't experiencing any problems now, then save yourself $200+ and don't buy another paddle. Or just send it to me B)

Give your height and maybe someone will help you get rid of some spare cash. ;)

Shorter paddles allow for quicker strokes and better control of the blade which can help with quick playboating sequences, longer paddles provide more leverage which can help control larger boats (ie.creekers)
