This went a bit off topic from what it was, but it’s still shoulder related…
Doctor and what not reckoned I’d be out of kayaking for at least 9 months, preferably even 12.
So much for that…
So after less than 9 weeks out of surgery, I got a mate to paddle me down the (I was the ‘lucky’ passenger) Palmiet River on my sit on top kayak. Probably one of the larger rapids run in a SOT. And in case you’re wondering, we didn’t make it. Almost though! Pained my shoulder and managed a dead leg but all good.
And then just under 15 weeks from surgery I managed to get on a local river at a flood level in my own kayak. Complete with winds hovering around the 50 knot mark, which made paddling very challenging, even walking with the boat was tough! Took it very easy, all good, once again.
Super stoked with my recovery.
After that I paddled the Palmiet again, at a much lower level. And then the Molenaars. Today I’m thinking of hitting some small waves (ocean) as it’s a perfect day outside and a light offshore wind and tmrw another river.
I think, with hard training and lot’s of exercise and enough determination, one can get back into action a lot sooner than one thinks. Although I am taking it very easy and being extra careful for sure. Good luck to anyone out there in the same boat, so to speak.

It’s not a fun road to travel…
