Hey there, i'm thinking about buying and converting a vw transporter, for my many paddling adventures. I want to put my to boats (Perception java & Dagger G-force) in the back then put a false floor on top to chill/sleep on.
However not sure about the length would a swb van be long enough or would in need a lwb?
The idea being the 'java' would go behind the driver and 'g-force' behind the passenger at the back, so when sliding door is opened there will be a gap were the 'g-force' is shorter.

any input welcome.

Cheers.

I had a VW Westie for a few years (well several, but nevermind...)
Your boats should fit no problem...

Have fun!

A SWB is long enough, however there is more room in the LWB to have the boats under the bed and hang out inside. Avoid the T4 1.9TDi as its too smaller engine for the load, plus numerous problems with head gaskets at 100,000Km. Look either for the 2.0 D with a veg oil conversion or 2.5TDi for power.

If its a T5 you want, they are very good.

LWB no doubt. When the weather is bad you'll enjoy the extra room inside. You'll be able to take more stuff inside as well as more mates.. ;) Good luck!

Windsurfing magazines often have articles on kitting out vans, check them out from time to time or browse the net. You'll find some awesome tips on how to outfit the interior of your van.
