G'day Joe. mate your best bet is to sign up for profesional lesson with a qualified instructor. i don't know about you but i am a vissual person and i pick things up better when i actualy see it first hand. so i don't think it being writen out for you here would help you. also a insrtuctor will be able to teach you not only how to roll but more importantly when to roll. as you can see by the question that is posted on this site a good roll is great but if you don't know when is a good time to exicute it you can end up with a serious injury like a shoulder dislocation. i would get my self affiliated with my local club of paddlers mate thats my advice.:stop:

Hi Joe,

We prepared this page for our beginning kayak students coming to Chile who want to learn the Kayak Roll. We teach five different types of rolls. All five are described and explained with video demonstrations of each.

I hope this helps:

A kayaking club or profeshnal instructor is the way to go.
If thats not an option work on your low brace, then the high brace & then grab EJ's rolling and braceing DVD.

Good Luck ;)

I wouldn't learn it yourself, because if you mess up, which you will in the beginning, you'll have to bail, and learning it will take ages.
Like the people before me, a qualified instructor and Eskimo rescuing are the way forward. Good luck :)

I think that is a touring kayak. Listen you can roll any boat that you can get control of through thigh hooks, straps, or knee braces. IF you kness are not splayed very wide a roll like the back deck or Twist and Slice roll works better if the knees are not locked down through a high perfomance thigh brace.

Any of these rolls if done correctly will work well. Do not blame any problems on the type of roll but on how you are doing it.

If you local high school band plays bad music do not blame it Mozart. They will still mess up Beethoven.

Get a good spray skirt and outfit the boat so you feel attached and have control of it side to side stability. YEAH I just looked at the photo of the boat. There is no reason one can not roll that kayak following the above advice.

I am surprised I had not heard of that kayak as I used to be a design consultant for Dagger.

I helped design and consult on the Response, the crossfire, outburst, transition, rpm, and redline. These were in the stone ages but a time of rapid evolution towards boats that we see on the rivers now days.

I think if you are a fanatic kayaker and have a degree in industrial design you will find a job.

Hi Joe
the easyiest way i found to learn to roll is to try and join a local kayak club.
the instructors there should teach u haw to do it or try and get acces to a pool if you can
what u do is you capsize bring your paddle out flick and push down on the paddle.
watch this video i think it explains it quite well

good luck

Charles
