the worldwide paddling community

I am sure you can imagine that winter in Yellowknife really limits our paddling season. There are pleny of ways to keep bus and many a folk spentd lots of time outdoors. Yellowknife has a huge population of runners that go all year round and we see more bikes on the road during the winter now. The Triathlete club keeps their members hoppping with pool sessions and running. Being a large relatively flat area cross counrty skiing is very big here as well. The northern lights come out to play most nights and we get many Chinese and Japanese visitors that come for the lights.
There are about 4 drama groups in town and they each do a production or two each winter. There is a Chess club and a large number of sports for the kids, hockey and scoccer are huge and there is now even a lacross club for youngsters. There is volleyball association and indoor tennis, gymastics and lots of other things. There are creative writing groups and all kinds of little presentations going on all the time. Basically if your bored in this town during the winter you would be bored anywhere because you just aren't doing anything.
Should you love the noise this is a paradise for the snowmobiler. Not my cup of tea I prefer snow shoes and skis.
This year I will help Kate set up the New Years Eve Fireworks display. I will spend the afternoon helping to set things up and then go to the pool to run the Freeswim. That finishes just in time forme to get back and help Kate fire off the display.
I also like my virtual sailing races and they can keep you pretty busy that and walking the Trans Canada Trail virtual fills up my day.
