Yesterday evening around 21:00 hrs I head the first gulls of the year arrived. This is a sure sign of open water just around the corner. Funny I was thinking about how I had not heard any yet this here the day before. You can always tell when they arrive, You go from quiet neighbourhood to the crying of the gulls instantly. They are a great site but a loud bunch to live beside. I like it when they are flying around as I paddle the lake and I stay away from the islands that they nest on as they getting pretty picky about the type of company they want when the young are land bound on the islands. Still it is nice to have the gulls back and soon the eagels will arrive , the ravens of course stay all year stubborn as they are. They to are a great source of amusment as they soar the thermals and winds along the shorelines. It really is too bad that great slave has no sealions as they are always fun to paddle near. I paddled with them once in Victoria harbour and enjoyed their company, once I got used to the fact that they won't accidently knock me over. Cheers, Greg

we have these black fellas as well and usually they are no problem. We get the occssional one wondering around town but they usually bypass town by 5.6 miles. We see then lots just out of town where we have our Sociable. we get foxes and Coyotes in town all year long and I know of some big fox dens 100 feet off the main drag. Thats what you get when your an island of town in a sea of bush.
