Pyrenees experience
The area, which enjoyed the status of an independent kingdom in the middle ages (in the 12th Century), owes its name to the remarkable geological features which rise majestically
over the surrounding land, providing a perfect home for vultures and acting as a magnet
for rock climbers from all over the world.
Although the rushing waters of the River Gállego, which crosses the area from North to South, were once the bearer of rafts constructed from tree trunks, the river has now become
the spectacular playground of several adventure sports (rafting, canoeing, hydrospeed).
Ever since the late middle ages, the lives of the local villages have been strongly coloured by the presence of the castles, churches and shrines which abound in this area, the most outstanding example of which is clearly Loarre Castle, the best-preserved Romanesque
castle in the world and one of the jewels in the crown for any visitor.
The area’s wide open spaces and the absence of intrusive human activity offer the perfect environment in which to explore the local countryside on foot or by bicycle and to observe a wide range of wildlife in its undisturbed natural habitat.
