the worldwide paddling community

I was the founding member of Paddlers for Parts and we have been active since 2001. We are a group of concerned paddlers, hikers and cyclist that promote Organ and Tissue Donation and the paddling sports as a means to an active and healthy lifestyle.
Each year for the past 5 years we have hosted a 3 day pininic at the Yellowknife River bridge. We supply as many canoes, kayaks, rafts and things that float as we can and we invite Yellowknife to come out and play. Each year we have a selection of games and toys (slack line and greenlandic rope) as well as soccer and volleyball and anything else we can thing of. We offer snacks and soft drinks anytime and at least one hot feed a day for any and all that wish to join us.
Depending on who shows up and what they would like to try and do we offer a large selection of demos from throw bagging and z-drag set up and eskimo roll demos. This year I will be working on my hammock roll, I have been toying with the idea of using a hammock strung out with a kayak lashed inside to practice rolling with or just to rock around in and have fun. It may take a bit of stream lining but, I think that it will work. I may introduce some bungee cords into the set up and see what happens. Problem with these rigs is I always have to go first. We have always been blessed with good weather for this affair and we hope the record continues to hold. This year we are a few weeks early so that we catch the last 3 days of Yellowknifes 75th. Homecoming Celebration. We felt that the extra number of folks could increase our turnout and we like to feed lots of folks.
Surprising how time flies as I remember or at least parts of it the 50th Anniversary of Yellowknife and I have no idea where the past 25 years flew to.
Should any of you be in the area please come out as the more the merrier as far as we are concerned. Cheers and see you at the Sociable. Greg
PFDS are manatory if you wish topaddle at the |sociable, we supply a large number but bringing your own guarantees it fits and our infant child selection is small. Cheers

This years event raised 245.00 dollars and so financially we didnot do so well. However we did gat almostb70 people to paddle either a canoe or kayak for the frsttime and had quite a few return two days in a row,Shirley showed up 3 days running. Since the event is designed to put butts in boats and not really a fund raiser we consider the whole thing a great success.
