I was just watching this and thought I should post it. Paddler skill levels and safety are always a big issue and this paddler was very lucky.

I slipped Sploosh into the Slave and the wind was light but I managed to sail to Burwash point about a kilometer across the bay. I visited Gary he liives on a small house boat there. I then sailed / paddled to the end of Latham Island and down Back Bay . I crossed beneath the Causeway that joins the mainland to Latham Island and paddled back home between Joliffe Island and the mainland. The last half was a nice little into the wind paddle but the winds were light. I saw 4 other kayaks and a c

Today I slipped "Sploosh" into the chilly waters of great slave and had a great first paddle sail of the year. sploosh is my prijon Seayak on which I run a Pacific Action Kayak sail. I was pleased with how well everything and wonder now why I hesitated so long in buying a drysuit. I found

The increase in speed and ease of paddling made them smile quite nicely. They will eventually make good paddlers with some pointing in the right direction. They are willing and try hard

Yellowknife is not the only spot in Canada that is catching some white stuff. Hoping that this cool snap will be very brief as I would like to get on with break up so that the serious paddling can begin.
Last week I was basking in the sun hundreds of miles north of Yellowknife and now we are back to fall. I squeezed in one quick paddle, just enough to discover where the leaks are.
There is open water on the Yellowknife river and this is one of the few times I wish I had a vehicl

This morning was a pleasant-31c and then the sun arrived. Managed a high of -21 for the day and this is spring, This we hope will end shortly but then again it could drag on forever. Last year our summer was incredibly late and even at the end of June, early July parts of Great Slave lake East arm were frozen. We had our Sociable Affair the first week of July at the Yellowknife river bridge and the river was almost freezing. I was doing roll demos and needed every item of neoprene I owned jus
