Yelllowknife a fine starting point for your Great Slave journeys(and beyond)

Yellowknife is the perfect spot to start a trip on the lake. Historically many famous Arctic Explorations used the Lake as a starting point. From Yellowknife if you paddle hard enough you can reach three oceans. This involves some long trips, but they have been done before with gear no where near as nice as the stuff we have now.
Come on up and play much worse ways to spend your vacation you can be sure of that. Cheers, Greg

Comment by Greg Loftus ( Cominco) on May 13, 2010 at 10:00am: Another short paddle on the bigfella today and it was fun busting ice and pushingthe flows around. There is a lot of water but it is across the bay and I can't quite getbthere yet.

Comment by Greg Loftus ( Cominco) on May 6, 2010 at 10:32am: The gap widens each day between the shore and the ice pack and longer rides are possible each day. Trying to man up for some roll practice but she is looking pretty damn chilly out there yet.

Comment by Greg Loftus ( Cominco) on May 4, 2010 at 9:43am: Got my kayak wet on may first on Great Slave. There was a nice shallow stretch opened between shore and mainland running 5/6 hundred feet northn to south basically. Maybe 100 feet wide at the widest point but plenty of room to roam. I practiced carved turns an spins and did some braces and spend some time breaking candleld ice. The first ride is always nice and there is more open water at the bridge.

Comment by Greg Loftus ( Cominco) on April 13, 2010 at 12:49pm: The Paddlers for Parts film festival The Reel Paddling Film Fesival`` was a sell out almost on Saturday evening, managed to sell 90 percent of the tickets. Nice to have a full house as last year it was a much smaller event with only 44 tickets sold.

Our friend Vicki Swam and some friends are coming to play this summer as well. Great Slave will be a busy place this summer kayak wise at least.

Comment by Greg Loftus ( Cominco) on March 28, 2010 at 8:36pm: The Paddkers of Great Slave Lake are against the daming of the Slave river and do not support the building of dams in the NWT. Atco is talking about four dams on the Mackenzie Ricer none of which is in Alberta but that is where they want the power to go. Of course we will oppose this and our MP Hon. Dennis Bevington is on our side.
