At the DUSSELDORF boat show which is said to be the largest in the world Klepper announced a new "SOLAR POWERED KAYAK", thats all i know but if one of our members saw it they might be able to provide some details. The last one i saw was a solar cell charging a battery and the battery provided power to a motor and prop, not really solar powered but battery powered. Lets see what Klepper have done. I have done a little checking and the solar cell charges a lithium-manganese battery, it could be a good idea, but as it is said "the jury is still out" although Klepper have had a motor assist system for some time using old style batteries and out board engines (gas, petrol) were used on Kleppers in the 1930s or earlier. One thing to note is that if a motor of any size is used you may have to have a license in Canada,( the one that power boat operators need ), if you get power assist check, if you have to have one and you havn,t got one, the fine,if caught is quite heavy.

From what i have been able to gather Klepper are using a High performance Lithium-Manganese battery and an up-graded motor which is what i expected. I can,t see a kayak running direct from solar cells. It would be better to buy a small boat and outboard, this town is full of them they are used for fishing, a gas engine is used to get anywhere and then an electric trolling motor probably from Canadian Tire. The Klepper outfit will be a few hundred dollars, i think.
