Great Falls, MD – July 11-12, 2009 - Come and enjoy the most multifaceted whitewater event in the country, only minutes from the White House! The 19th Annual Potomac Whitewater Festival will start with a bang as world class paddlers face each other and the mighty Potomac in the famous and thrilling race through Great Falls. This intense competition will be the perfect kick-off for two days of fun events organized to delight beginners and experts alike.
Freestyle, squirt boating and boater-cross competitions will keep the most advanced paddlers entertained, while beginners will enjoy on-water clinics. All can let their creative side go wild and be rewarded for the most original attires in the Community Downriver Paddle. Paddlers will race against the clock and each other in the attainment race. Purists will have the pleasure to participate in a slalom competition, too! The Saturday night party at Old Angler’s Inn is for meeting new paddlers, swapping old gear at the Swap and find boats, paddles, tech gear and breathtaking photos in the silent auction, while enjoying food, beverages and music.
This Festival is organized by the paddling community of the Washington DC area in collaboration with the C&O Canal National Heritage Park (MD). All proceeds will be directed to American Whitewater, whose mission is to raise awareness about the need to protect whitewater river resources.
